Must-See Ways to Celebrate Father’s Day Around the U.S.

Father and daughter wearing mustaches and being silly on Father's DayWanna hear a joke about paper?
Nevermind. It’s tearable.

Dads from around the country have provided us with some pretty great jokes. And for that, we are thankful. Not because the jokes are particularly funny, but because our dads think they are, thus giving us a reason to create a subculture of comedy deeply rooted in ridiculous puns. Thanks pops!

When it comes to dad’s special day, we think he deserves more than a new tie or some sweet, shiny cufflinks. Whether you’re in Atlanta or Austin, people all around the U.S. are celebrating Father’s Day withOUT a trip to the local department store, and you can too! Check out these awesome ideas for celebrating dad, and if you live in one of these cities, be sure to swing by and say, “Cheers” or “You’re The Beary Best.” Trust us, one of those phrases will be relevant. (And he’ll love the bear pun.)

AUSTIN, TX: Heeeey, Mama, er, Dad?

Rock out with Dad to the classic song “Wagon Wheel” at the Old Crow Medicine Show concert at Stubb’s on Friday night. Tickets start at just $30 and the opener is up and coming Margo Price. Purchase tix here.

DENVER, CO: Get Jazzy On It

Every summer, City Park in Denver comes alive with the *free* sounds of beautiful, live jazz each Sunday from 6-8 PM. On Father’s Day, Nelson Rangell will fill the air with his smooth vibes. Pack a picnic, your favorite beverages, and enjoy the beginning of summer with Dad as you both play the air-saxophone like your life depends on it.

PORTLAND, OR: Beer Me

If you’re new to the whole “being 21 years of age” thing, your dad may or may not love the fact that he can finally throw back a couple of drinks with you. If a few cold ones are calling your name, check out the Oregon Garden Brewfest. Get cozy with nature at this hoppy festival set in the forest. It boasts 120 varieties of craft beer, ciders, and mead from 60 breweries all across the nation.

MEMPHIS, TN: Give The Gift of Grizz

Is your Dad a basketball fan? What about a Memphis Grizzlies fan? If so, furry goodness is on the way – literally. Grizz, the Memphis Grizzlies mascot, will be making personal visits to fanatic dads. For only $99 Memphis Grizzlies will pay your dad a visit and bring him a shirt, poster, flag, and of course, the ultimate bearhug.

ATLANTA, GA: Bring The Beach To You

Want to hit the beach with Dad but don’t want to make the drive? The Downtown Decatur Beach Party is on it. On June 17th, 60 tons of sand will be transported to Ponce de Leon Avenue, transforming it into an island in the sun! Get down with live music, a food court (two words: funnel. cake.), and fruity drinks with tons of dancing. Just be sure to tell Dad to keep the Macarena moves to a minimum.

Whatever your dad is into, be sure he gets exactly what he wants out of this day – including a little peace and quiet after your activity…and for you to stop making fun of his dad jokes. Enjoy the day with him; there’s no need for buying more stuff. If you do decide to go the gift route, just don’t buy anything with velcro. It’s a total rip-off. Ha! (He made that one up himself!)
