Celebrate the 4th of July in Washington D.C.

And with the latter holiday coming up, there’s no better time to celebrate, especially in our nation’s capitol. Check out some baseball, and heck, maybe eat some pie too, at these awesome events coming up on fourth of July weekend in Washington D.C.!

Celebrate parade style with the famous Independence Day Parade! Join hundreds of thousands of people to see beautifully decorated floats, giant balloons, dancing drill teams, boisterous bands, and more as they celebrate on the corner of Constitution Ave NW and 7th St NW. The parade runs from 11:45 AM to 2 PM.

Sing and dance at the Capitol Fourth concert, which is held on the capitol’s west lawn and features performances by The Beach Boys and Sofia Carson, and even a special appearance by John Stamos. Musical acts will perform plenty of patriotic songs alongside the National Symphony Orchestra. Admission is free and you can snag a spot as early as 3 PM. The concert runs from 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM.

Take yourself out to the ballgame and check out the annual Fourth of July game, where the Washington Nationals will be playing the New York Mets. Grab a bag of peanuts, a cold soda, and maybe a hot dog or too. Catch the game at 11:05 AM sharp!

Free Festival alert! The Smithsonian Folklife Festival, now in its 50th anniversary, is a D.C. tradition. Enjoy a marketplace of food, dancing, concerts, and more. This year’s event theme is “Circus Arts,” which is sure to be wildly fun for everyone! The Folklife Festival runs June 29th-July 4th and July 6th-9th from 11 AM to 5 PM.

The Fourth means fireworks and this year is no different. Considered one of the top ten fireworks shows in the U.S., Washington D.C.’s 17-minute show over the reflecting pool is a jaw-dropper. Don’t fret if you’re not in the immediate area, though – it can be seen from various locations in D.C. and even in Virginia! Watch for the show to start at 9:08 PM and check out the event map for viewing spots.

Hang out with George Washington at his Mount Vernon estate for “An American Celebration,” an event that features daytime fireworks (how does that work?!) and historic reenactments of important parts of the nation’s birth. A general admission ticket to Mount Vernon will get you in for free.
