Pantone Announces Color of the Year 2015: Marsala & How To Use It

Pantone Color of the Year 2015Every year, the world-renowned Pantone Color Institute forecasts the “Color of the Year” for the next year. Pantone is a major authority on colors and has created a standard language for the color communication from designers to producers to retailers. Since 1990, Pantone has predicted what colors will be trendy in the upcoming year. In 2014, the color was the bold yet enchanting Radiant Orchid. For 2015, Pantone leans toward a naturally impactful color: Marsala. So what is Marsala and how can you add elegant touches of it to your life?

This rich color incorporates earthy tones into a more traditional red wine hue. Small touches of Marsala are perfect for warming up a room and making a sophisticated statement. The hearty but stylish tone has a universal appeal and transfers well to design, fashion, beauty, and home décor and furnishings. Here are a few of our favorite ways to incorporate the 2015 Color of the Year into your apartment décor:

Accent Wall

If you can paint in your apartment, Marsala makes for an excellent accent wall in the dining room. Red hues are believed to stimulate our senses and our appetites, so they are good for dining areas and kitchens. You can pair Marsala with relaxed yellows for a beautiful look.

Bathrooms

Bathrooms are a great place to make a bold interior design statement that won’t become super overwhelming. Since we don’t typically spend a lot of time in bathrooms, it’s okay to go all out on intense or unusual colors. Marsala-inspired bathrooms with orange or brown accents create an enchanting space.

Accent Décor

If you don’t want to take the big leap into the Marsala trend with paint, you can add bold pops of the earthy neutral color to your living spaces. If you’re working with other warm hues like red, orange, or brown, Marsala can cozy up more traditional spaces with accent pieces such as pillows, lamp shades, wall art, or chair cushions.
