How to Successfully Decorate the Guest Bedroom

GuestroomWhether you’re just moving in to a 2 bedroom apartment or you’ve finally decided to tackle the task of decorating, getting a guest bedroom in order is no small feat. But don’t worry, apartment-dweller! Clear out the clutter, give the space a good scrub, and you’re ready to get started. Here are some practical tips for creating a place your guests will love staying in.

Let the Light in (or Not)

If the guest room window faces east, you may not have thought twice about your window treatments‚Ķ but your guests sure will if they’re late risers! Install curtains, shutters, or even blackout curtains, so your guests can choose what time they rise and shine.

Tidy up the Towels

There’s nothing more awkward than getting out of the shower and finding out there’s not a towel in sight. Save your guests the embarrassment and put fresh, clean towels out where they are clearly visible.

Stock the Shower

If there’s a bathroom attached to your guest room, line the counter with a few travel size toiletries. Guests who forgot to bring their own shampoo will be thankful that you did!

Settle the Suitcases

Guests who come to stay usually bring a little luggage. Even your basic duffel bag will need a space to stay, so make sure there’s a bench, ottoman, or lots of clear floor space for guests’ suitcases.

Leave the Light on

Make sure the room has lamps either on a bedside table, or even installed as sconces. Otherwise, guests less familiar with your apartment may get up in the middle of the night and, in an attempt to navigate in the dark, stub a toe or two on the way to the bathroom.

Bring on the Blankets

Not everyone sleeps soundly in the same temperatures. Make the bed up moderately and leave extra blankets in the room, so your guests can pile on the warmth as much or as little as they’d like.

Make It Memorable

Put a little something fun in the room for your guests. Whether it’s your Garden Gnomes of the West coffee table book, a small framed chalkboard for leaving notes (and maybe the Wi-Fi password, too), or snacks on the nightstand, give your guests something extra to make them feel welcome.
