Apple Pie and ForkHappy National Pie Day! This great day – January 23 – celebrates the most delicious of all desserts. There is nothing more American than pie. Apple pie, Key Lime Pie, Chocolate Pie – you name it, we love to eat it. But where are the best cities to have an apartment if pie is what you crave?

We did a little digging, and found the best places to grab a slice of pie. Is your city on this list?

New York, N.Y.

Pies – n – Thighs in Brooklyn is so well-known for its Banana Cream Pie, Bourbon Cream Pie and many more, that it was featured on the TV shows “Unique Eats” and “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives”. And City Bakery is known around the country for its classic, but perfectly executed, Pumpkin Pie.

Philadelphia, Penn.

There are some great bakers in this cold Northeastern city. For example, Magpie Artisan Pies was named one of America’s best pie shops by Travel & Leisure magazine. It serves all sorts of unique versions of pies, including pie shakes and pie fries (!), but its Lemon Curd Pie is one of its guests’ favorites.

Eugene, Ore.

You may not think of pie when you think of this beautiful city not too far from Portland, but it is home to some great restaurants that serve pie. Corn Bread Café, which serves a variety of yummy vegan food, also has a Frozen Peanut Butter Pie that is well-known in the area and was even featured on “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives”. Fisherman’s Market here also features the savory Cajun Crawfish Pie. It is definitely unlike any pie you have ever tried!

San Francisco, Calif.

Three Babes Bakeshop, in the Ferry Plaza Farmers’ Market, features unusual cult favorites such as Salty Honey Walnut, but is also known for more common but scrumptious pies such as Classic Apple, Coconut Cream and Rhubarb Crumble. If you live in San Francisco, you must check out the numerous pies at this shop. Foodies also won’t want to miss Mission Pie, which uses only seasonal ingredients, and features gourmet pies and tarts, such as the Plum Frangipane Tart.

Chicago, Ill.

This great city is home to the humorously-named Hoosier Mama’s Pie. The Key Lime Pie with gingersnap crust is one of the locals’ favorites, as well as its classic apple pie.

Durham, N.C.

Scratch is THE place to enjoy pie, since the trick to its crusts is lots of butter and very little sugar. The double-crusted Shaker Lemon Pie, which includes whole, sliced lemons that have been macerated for two or three days, is one of the locals’ favorites.

Key West, Fla.

Kermit’s Key West Key Lime Shoppe is known throughout the U.S. for its Frozen Key Lime Pie on a stick. Not only does it feature decadent Key Lime Pie on the inside, but it is dipped in rich Belgian chocolate. All the flavors combine together perfectly.

Orlando, Fla.

Not often thought of as the Pie Capital of the World but the National Pie Council has selected Orlando as the home of the annual APC National Pie Championships®. This year’s championships are in April and look to be the largest on record with hundreds of different pies from professional bakers and home cooks sure that they have the best pies in the country.
