The day has finally come: after a thorough search to find an apartment, you have finally settled on a new home! And now that you’ve decided on the perfect apartment, you’ll want to share the news about your move with everybody. (After all, how else will they know where to send all those housewarming presents?) Here are a few tips for getting the word out about your big move after you find an apartment that you love.
Send Moving Announcements
Once you find an apartment to call your own, you may be excited enough to tell friends and family ASAP. That’s fine! Just allow plenty of time to get announcements out. If you want a professional to do the job, allow about 2-3 weeks for the printer to complete the announcements. If not, you can certainly do them yourself, but make time so you won’t be juggling both finishing the announcements and packing up for the big move. You could also make the announcements yourself after you move into your new apartment so you don’t feel rushed, and maybe include a photo or a personal note in the announcements. Just make sure you get them done sooner rather than later! Projects like announcements are easy to put off when you start to unpack and decorate. Want to simplify matters? Send out an email! It’s a little less personal, yes, but ultimately much faster.
Meet Your Neighbors
Even if you don’t think you’ll interact much, it’s always a good idea to be on good terms with your neighbors. Stop by and knock on their doors for a brief introduction so you’ll be able to say a friendly hello next time you meet on the stairs.
Don’t Forget to Tell Your Mailman
… well, in a manner of speaking. Whenever you change addresses, you need to let the USPS know so your mail can be forwarded to you. Thanks to the wonders of the Internet, this process is now incredibly easy; just do it online through the USPS website!
Throw a Housewarming Party
There’s nothing like a gathering of friends and family for a housewarming party in a new apartment to make it feel like home. Let your housewarming party invitations double as change-of-address cards, then put out some hors d’oeuvres and invite your new neighbors over to join the party!
