So, your family is coming to your new apartment for the holidays? We understand that this is a very exciting, yet daunting moment for you. There can be a lot of pressure on you to host the perfect holiday celebration. Don’t worry, we’ve put together a list of a few things to keep in mind when planning this year’s festivities.
1) Don’t Wait To Clean!
The last thing that you want to worry about on your big day, when you have a million other things to think about, is cleaning up your bathroom or steam cleaning the carpets. That is why it is important to do all of the major cleaning at least few days ahead of time.
2) Make the Dinner a Potluck
If you have a large family, where every extended family member joins you on holidays, then it can be pretty difficult to cook for everyone. Choose a few main dishes, like the turkey and green bean casserole, to make yourself and then divvy out the other dishes to the other family members.
3) DIY: Decorating It Yourself
If you want your apartment to exude holiday cheer, but are on a budget, you can make your own holiday decorations. This is not only an inexpensive way to decorate, but it’s also a fun activity. In fact, you can make creating decorations a fun family or friend bonding event. Just get together a few weeks before the holidays and get decorating!
4) Don’t Forget to Have Fun
This is the most important part! The holiday season is about spending time with your family and friends, while being thankful for all of the wonderful things in your life. If something doesn’t go as planned, remember that everything will be ok. Your loved ones will be happy just to be spending time with you. They’ll have memories of the great time they had with you, not of the slight imperfections in the day.
By keeping these things in mind, your holiday hosting is sure to be a success. For more apartment living tips, keep an eye on our Apartment Living blog.
